Sujata Gopalan
Sujata Gopalan was born in India and in 1961, emigrated with her family to the United States at the age of three. She first attended Boston University as a painting student, but decided to study printmaking after seeing a print retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago one summer. Sujata returned to Indiana to study with Marvin Lowe and Rudy Pozzati at Indiana University, and then went onto complete a MFA in printmaking at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.
Gopalan has taught Studio Art and Printmaking at Southeastern Louisiana University, Eastern Illinois University, and currently has her own studio practice in Indiana. She is also a scientist, with graduate degrees in microbiology and immunology and has been a Senior Research associate at Indiana University’s Department of Regenerative Biology,
and Professor and Chair of Biotechnology at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana.
